NICK WAPLINGTON
The next photographer I have chosen to research is Nick Waplington. He is a New York based documentary photographer who captures elements of every day life. The reason I have chosen to research this photographer is because this set of work that he has produced is primarily child-based. This links to my on-going theme of 'life through a child's eyes.
Although I am not actually capturing the individual child in the shot I am still going to take inspiration from his work and look at his different techniques to use in my own work.

This is a documentary style image by Nick Waplington. In my opinion the concept behind this image is to show the working class female. I think this image is showing that young girls are being brought up to serve the housewife role in modern society. The image is a candid shot and shows young girls 'playing' the role of a housewife (or mother) in their play. The image makes you want to ask questions and immediately draws your attention towards it.
The lighting of the image is fairly dark and the colours are do not particularly stand out which creates a dull, aged feel. The location used of this image is a garden of someone's house, where the children of the house might usually play. The image has been composed so that the little girl in the foreground is the main focus and fills most of the picture, with the two girls in the background being more out of focus and not as eye-catching. The angle at which this image has been shot is low in order to really capture the feel of this image. The engagement with the subject mater is close-up and gives you a sense that you are there in the image.

This is a second documentary style image by Nick Waplington. In my opinion the concept behind this image is to show children who are brought up in a working class family. I think this image is showing the environment that young children are being brought up in and the childhood of maybe a deprived child who have to face in modern society. The image is a candid shot and shows a young girl crying but we are unsure why. The image makes you want to ask questions and immediately draws your attention towards it.
