IAN WALDIE
The first photographer that I have chosen to research is Ian Waldie. Waldie shoots HD time-lapse and stop-motion imagery. Projects from hours to years can be captured in this format and Waldie adds a cinematic touch to the final cut, allowing for usage anywhere from presentations, TVCs or cinema.
I have decided to take inspiration from his work to use in my own images, focusing on landscape stop motion photography. I want to portray my theme of play through my photography by capturing the sunsetting showing that life is continuously playing.
This is the link to Ian Waldie's website where his work is displayed, showing his stop motions and photography.

This is an example of Waldie's work. He shot this stop motion at Vivid festival in 2012 and this video can be viewed on his website.
Waldie shot this time lapse sequence from different angles, using motion control and 3-axis rigs. The idea behind this stop motion was to capture the lights and hustling community during this festival. Thousands of photos will have been taken to create this stop motion, all of which from different angles.
The words I would use to describe this video is lively and captivating. The mood is exciting. Your eyes are immediately drawn to the bright lights and movement within the piece.
I really like this stop motion as I think it captures the buzz of the festival and highlights the lights and colours within the city.
This is another one of Waldie's stop motions but this time instead of focusing on a landscape scene, he has focused on one subject. This stop motion combines a traditonal stop motion animation with a light-painting technique which is all conducted in real time, using a camera.
The main focus is the car which your eyes are immediately drawn to. The light painting is happening around the car which highlights it's different elements. The scene behind the car is also changing which will have been created using animation.
The mood of the stop motion is more dark and thrilling, I like the way the subject matter (the car) stays the same but the atmosphere around it is constantly changing.

NEXT PHOTOSHOOT PLAN
I am going to take inspiration from Waldie's work and create my own stop motion. I am going to create one of the sun setting on an evening as I want to capture the colours and movement in the sky . I am going to conduct this shoot at my house, concentrating on the angle and position of the camera.
When I have taken my photos, I am going to collate the most succesfull ones and create my video. This links to my theme of 'play' as I am showing the continous natural events that happen on an everyday basis that we have no control over.
