Michelangelo Di Battista

For my forth photographer to research I have chosen Michelangelo Di Battista. I really like the work he creates as he still manipulates portraits but manually rather than digitally, using various medias such as paint, watercolour and also by sewing into the image. I am going to do some responses to this artists work using my own images. I am going to take a portrait shoot using similar poses to the photographer and then add the different medias over the top.

This is a portrait photography image by Michelangelo Di Battista. The image was originally a posed portrait, the photographer has then added on top of the image using different types of medias, such as material and fine liner. The image is quite exposed, as there is a light tone throughout, also with elements of darker tones, such as on the added manipulation and the clothes of the model. The photograph was taken in a studio, with the subject central in the shot. The photograph has been composed well, as it’s evenly balanced and is not overly edited, meaning your eye is not particularly drawn to one part of the piece. The subject matter is looking straight into the camera and is centred in the image. It’s a fairly close up image as only the head and shoulders of the subject are in the shot. The entire image is in focus therefore the photographer will have used a narrow aperture. There is no particular point of focus but your eyes are drawn to the different lines and shapes that have been created over the image, using various medias. I am going to take my own photos in response to this photographer to create the same effects by adding different lines and shapes using various materials. I am going to conduct a studio portrait shoot in college using simple makeup and hair, then print out the most successful images and edit them accordingly.
