Honey

For this shoot I took inspiration from the photographer Marcel Van Der Vlugt. I conducted this photo shoot in the studio at college, using a soft lighting. My model had simple makeup on and her hair tied back with no clothes showing in the shot. I then poured honey over my subject letting it drip down her face, I captured the honey falling and the drips of the honey. I used a tripod when conducting this shoot to avoid camera shake. I mainly shot the images straight on with my subject looking into the camera; I also shot a few of the images from the sides of my subjects face so that you could see the honey more clearly. I am happy with the outcome of these images and I am going to continue to experiment with manually manipulating my portrait images.

This is the first successful image from the shoot. Here I have captured the honey drips falling down my subject's face.

My idea behind this piece was to show movement and almost deface my subject in a way, as honey is not a natural thing that you would normally see on someone’s face. The angle I used for this image is straight on with my subject looking straight into the camera but with her eyes closed. I have composed this image so that my subject is slightly to the right of the shot, so that your eyes are immediately drawn towards her. The light is shining slightly onto her face creating shadows on the honey which I think makes the image more 3D and adds more depth.

I am happy with the outcome of this image and I have achieved what I hoped I would when creating this image.

This second successful image is a more close up shot, capturing the honey in more detail on my subjects face.

I have zoomed in to only capture the eyes, nose and mouth of my subjects face in this image, showing the drips of honey on my subjects face. For this image I used the manual focus so that my subjects face was in focus and the background was out of focus, this draws the attention more towards my subject. The specs of light on the honey give the image more depth and create more of a 3D effect.

I slightly edit this image in Photoshop to enhance the colours and contrast of the image; I am happy with the outcome and think the honey gives a good effect on the image.
