                                       Elenora Clark

I have chosen to research the photographer Elenora Clark. She focuses on texture within black and white portrait images. I am going to take inspiration from her work and try to replicate the different textures she uses in my own work I am going to conduct a photo shoot using different materials on my subjects face to deface the portrait as experimentation for different ways to hide a person’s identity rather than editing them digitally.

This is a portrait image taken in a studio. The photographer has added crystallised salt and water to her subjects face. The idea behind the image is to show textures through a portrait image, by physically putting the textures onto the subjects face. Most of the image is light with a bigger shadow on the right side of the subjects face. I like the different tones within the image and the contrast between the liquid colour and her skin. The subject is centred in the image and the angle of view is straight on. The subject is looking directly into the camera with her hair slightly tilted. The image has been edited to black and white to emphasise the tones within the image. The atmosphere around this image is quite cold and sad. The subject matter has a blank facial expression but is directly engaged with the camera. I think these ads to the mood of the piece. Most of the image is in focus so the photographer will have used a narrow aperture. Details that my eyes are drawn to are the textures on the subjects face. I am going to take inspiration from this photographer for my own work. I am going to conduct a photo shoot adding texture to my subjects face, using salt, face paint and makeup, and edit the images accordingly.
