Bruno Metra

The concept behind Bruno Metra's work is to create juxtaposes 'normal' faces with body parts taken from supermodels and celebrities.

To create these wonderfully bizarre photographs, the photographer asked people to pose in their studio with eyes, lips and other facial features cut from magazines applied to their faces - an essential part of production, according to Metra. I have decided to reserach this artist as I would like to repplicate the technique that this photogrpaher uses anly using old photos of the person, as this links to  my theme of identity and looking at someones past.

This is a portrait image by Bruno Metra, this image was shot in a studio using a white background. The photographer has got there subject to pose simply, the photographer has then got an image of a celebrity's face and printed it out, once printed Metra has then attached the image to the subjects face hiding the subjects identity, not all of the image has been put onto the subjects face the mouth has been cut out so that the subjects mouth is revealed. In my opinion the concept behind the image is to portray body image in people today and the stereotypes that society create through the media such as magazines and billboard posters. The photographer got the model to look through a magazine and got them to choose which person in the magazine they most wanted to look like, and used this image in the shoot.

The lighting in this image is quite subtle and realistic with no harsh tones created; there are no shadows in this image. The image has been composed so that the portrait fits the majority of the frame filling the picture, the model is central in the image and looking central towards the camera. There is no aesthetic treatment that has been put onto the image and the image does not look practically edited, making it look more natural. The image is a fairly close up shot capturing the detail in the subjects face and the models. The mood is clinical by the way that the photographer altered the models face to create someone completely new, it is also quite sinister. The aperture set on the camera will have been quite narrow as the entire image is in focus. There is no particular part of the image that your eyes are drawn as the image has been composed to fill the frame. This image is from a set of work all created using the same technique.

This is a second image created by Bruno Metra. Metra has used the same technique as previously by combining a celebrity face with the subjects face. The photographer has got there subject to pose simply, the photographer has then got an image of a celebrity's face and printed it out, once printed Metra has then attached the image to the subjects face hiding the subjects identity, not all of the image has been put onto the subjects face, only the eyes and mouth have been cut out of the celebrity image and attached onto the subjects features.
