Ripping Effect

Here I have experimented with a ripping effect on my portrait images. To create these images I firstly took the images in the studio using a tripod. I got my model to pose in a way which I could then edit my images easily once printed. My subject posed as though she was pulling away something from her face so that I could add the text and ripping effect once printed. I shot these images from various angles and only capturing certain parts of the body.

Here I have added the results from this technique. To create these images I took the original image from my original shoot and edited them slightly in Photoshop, enhancing the colours and cropping to size. Once edited I printed out a set of three images onto cartridge paper. I then ripped away parts of the image as though my subject was doing it in the image; I then added a book page with some writing on behind the paper to create the effect that the paper is under the skin. The idea behind this technique is to reveal a person’s identity, and show a person’s past or history in an abstract and contemporary way. I am happy with the outcome of these images.
