Clingfilm

For this shoot I decided to experiment with using different materials in my portrait images to distort and disfigure my subject's face. For this shoot I used cling film, I wrapped the cling film around my subjects face and she held it up in different positions to hide her facial features. I shot some of these images in colour using a manual camera setting and shot some of them in black and white, using the manual camera setting. I also tried to shoot some of the images using a slow shutter speed on the camera to create movement within my images. I think the long exposure images are more effective and interesting when shot in black and white and make more of an impact. I also think the movement is also clearer within the images.

This is one of my most successful images from this shoot. To create this image I took it in a studio using white lighting, with my camera on a tripod and I shot this image in black and white. I then wrapped cling film around my subjects face covering most of it but her mouth. My subject is slightly to the right of the image, filling most of the frame.

I think this image gives of quite a sinister feel, almost as though my subject is trapped in the material, but the simplicity of the image makes it quiet and interesting to look at. The lighting is shining onto the material which captures the texture in it and creates depth in the image.

The idea behind this image was to deface my subject and take a contemporary and abstract twist on what could be seen as a simple portrait.

To create this piece I have taken two portrait images where my subject was holding the cling film over her face. One of the images was a shot further away capturing more of the face and the other was one closer up. I then overplayed these images in Photoshop.

I think this creates more of a moving image and I like the way the portrait looks as though it is moving towards you. Also it is hard to distinguish where both images are placed creating more of an abstract feel.

This is a third successful image from this photo shoot. To create this I shot it using a 3 second shutter speed and the monochrome setting on the camera.

My subject held a piece of cling film onto her face and moved left and right creating this moving like image. I think this effect gives the image a disturbing effect and gives a sense of the subject being trapped.

These techniques link to my theme of identity, I am going to continue to develop in my project looking at different techniques and processes.
