Matt Wisniewski

For my first photographer research I have looked at the work of Matt Wisniewski. He creates digital collages by blending fashion and nature photographs together. The aim of his work is to create surreal images that are eye catching and contemporary in style. I am going to take inspiration from his work and use some of the same techniques to overlay some of my own images, on Photoshop. I will overlay a portrait and landscape image, which I have taken in my previous shoot.

This is a portrait image by Matt Wisniewski. The photographer taking the portrait image most likely in a studio, and editing and overlaying a different image that includes textures over the top of the portrait image made this image. The idea behind this piece of work is to create a surreal image using digital collages with fashion and nature collages combined. The image is overall quite light and there are no shadows in the image. The tones vary throughout the image with more lightly than darker tones. The subject matter is cantered in the image and the angle of view is straight on, this draws your attention straight to the subject. There is no colour in the image but it works for the effect that the photographer was trying to achieve. The effects on the image were done on Photoshop using various techniques to layer the images. The atmosphere around this piece is quite calmed yet busy at the same time. The calmness comes from the expression of the subject matter herself and the busyness comes from the textural shapes and patterns around her. The image makes me feel inquisitive towards the feelings of the subject matter. The parts of image that are the original portrait parts are all in focus meaning the aperture will have been set narrow when taking the image. There is no particular point of focus as the image is quite balanced. I am going to use the techniques of Matt Wisniewski in my own work. I am going to take simple portrait images uses some of the poses that Matt Wisniewski uses to try and manipulate the same effect. Then overlay a textural landscape image in Photoshop.
